52 Week Blessing Challenge – Week 7 Books

Oh how I love books. I’ve posted before about my books and I think it is just a wonderful blessing that I live in a free society that I can have any book I want to own, and read about any subject without fear of condemnation or retribution.

As a child books took me from loneliness and created a whole world for me to reach. For the younger generation of today it just might be the World Wide Web that does this, but for me it was books.

Through books I began to see countries, and peoples, and stories of yesterday (which were my favorite). I think I read every book on Native Americans prior to 1970, and could tell you how to build a log cabin, dig a well, and even weave a rug, though I had done none of those things. I learned about plants and animals, about weather, and about living in the wilderness.

Books brought an interest in children who were born with challenging medical issues, and taught me how to read and write in Braille. And little did I know that the books I used for information God was using to help guide me toward His plan for my life.

God gave me a love for reading, for knowledge, and a desire to know Him. And through books I found my road easier to walk.

My favorite book is the Bible. Not one particular Bible, but the book as a whole. I have many different kinds of Bibles. Some are “study” Bibles, some are story Bibles. Every year I read a new version of His story. And every year I see my Creator in a new light, sometimes as a Champion, sometimes as a King too awesome to behold. But the one thing I always see is a Father of compassion who forgives, and desires to keep me close, and safe, and enjoys giving me good things…. like books!
